  • Walk the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy with its network of ancient trails
  • The charming town of Ravello and its colourful gardens
  • Soak up the atmosphere in the photogenic town of Positano
  • Enjoy some of the world's finest frutti di mare
  • Explore the world famous Isle of Capri at your own pace
Walk ancient paths of the Amalfi Coast in Italy as they wind through lemon groves and terraced vineyards with rewarding views at every twist and turn. The Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has drawn visitors to its stunning coastline since Victorian times and its attraction is no less strong today. Explore Amalfi, Ravello and Positano - picturesque villages and towns perched on the hillside. Not only will you walk the “Footpath of the Gods” which is justifiably the most famous walk on the Amalfi Coast, but you can also sample the fabulous seafood, take a day trip to the Island of Capri and, if you wish, visit the ruins in Pompeii.
This tour is graded moderate, with some of the walks being more challenging due to the significant elevation gains and losses. If you are physically fit and enjoy coastal walks with spectacular views, great seafood, wine and plenty of history, then this is the tour for you.

Tour Style:

Self Guided | Go at your own pace on an independent tour.

Multi Center Walking | You will spend multiple nights in one or more of the locations on this walking tour

Ideal if you have an interest in:

Foodie Adventures, Wine, Whiskey & More..., Historical Journeys, Coastal & Island

Activity Level & Terrain

This holiday is graded moderate and it is suitable for those who are in good physical condition. The area is undulating with ascents and descents. Also on some walks there are cliff edges and sheer drops close by which would not be appropriate for people with vertigo!

During the summer, temperatures are high and this may slow you down. Most of the route follows dirt tracks and stepped trails although you will occasionally be following minor paved roads.

The route is not always way-marked and it is necessary to follow the detailed walking notes and maps provided. You will also have access to the Macs Adventure Smartphone App enabling you to follow the route using your phone's GPS so you will have no problems finding the way. You can simply download the GPX tracks to your phone for offline use and off you go!

We specifically choose the hotels to ensure that you enjoy every minute of your stay. All offer a warm welcome to walkers, traditional hospitality and delicious local food and drink. Details of the lovely local hotels we normally use are detailed below. These are subject to availability, and early booking is highly recommended for June-September in particular, as this is a popular area. In case of alternative accommodation needing to be booked, supplements may be payable and we will advise you accordingly.

Alternate Accommodation

We will always try and use the hotels  detailed in the accommodation information. Occasionally, because of limited availability we may have to accommodate you into alternative hotels which are not listed in the description. If those listed are unavailable the alternative accommodation will be of the same or better standard than those described.

Single Rooms & Solo Walkers

This independent walking holiday is available to solo walkers for a supplement and is subject to availability.  If you require single rooms within your party we would be happy to accommodate you although there is a single room supplement payable.

When To Go

The Amalfi Coast walking holiday is available from March to October.  You can start your holiday on any date in the season. However this tour is not available from the end of July until the end of August as this is the hottest time of year and availability in the hotels is almost impossible to secure due to it being the Italian summer holidays.

Peak season availability: Please note that July, then end of August and September are extremely busy times along the Amalfi Coast and early booking is essential (ideally 6 months in advance) in order to secure the best choice accommodation. If you are interested in travelling during these months, then we may require some flexibility regarding your dates and itinerary. We will do our best to provide a suitable alternative in line with our usual tour. In the instance that our usual accommodation is not available, a supplement will be payable. Thank you for your cooperation.

Time of Year

Spring in the Amalfi Coast is sublime and April, May and June are absolutely lovely. Autumn is a perfect time of year as the landscape is made up of a gold and red pallet so September and October are unmissable.

Getting to the Start

We recommend you fly to Naples.  From there you can take a Curreri bus from outside the terminal, up to Sorrento which takes 1H15mins.

From Sorrento you take a SITA bus to Amalfi which takes around 1H40 mins.  Alternatively, we can arrange private transfers at an additional cost.

Another option when travelling between May and October and between Naples Airport and Amalfi is to take the Pintour shuttle bus. The journey takes about 1h.50 and timetables can be found on the Pintour website.

Getting from the End

From Positano you can return to Naples by SITA bus to Sorrento and Curreri shuttle bus to Naples Airport or by SITA bus to Sorrento and the Circumvesuviana Train to Naples Train Station and ALIBUS shuttle bus to Naples Airport.

Luggage Transfer

Your bags will be transferred from your accommodation as per your itinerary and moved onto your next overnight accommodation. We ask you to limit your luggage to one bag of up to 20kg per person.
