Experience the Magic of Skye in Style with the Experts
Skye’s most westerly point – photogenic Neist Point Lighthouse.

Our new for 2019 trip the Best of Skye In Style is a culmination of our many years of expertise organizing self-guided walking holidays in Scotland. The result? A 5 day self-guided walking trip taking in the very best of Skye on specially selected trails with overnights in beautiful hand-picked accommodations! We have also included a custom Macs privately guided day tour … find out more below.

The Glenfinnan Viaduct: Take the iconic West Highland Line railway north from Glasgow to Mallaig before making the crossing to Skye by ferry for your first overnight on Sleat.

Private day tour with a local guide

To make this tour extra special, and to allow you to make the most of your time on the island, we have included a privately guided day tour. Designed exclusively for Macs clients, the tour takes you to the Fairy Pools (in the morning to avoid the afternoon busyness), spectacularly far-flung Neist Point Lighthouse, and Dunvegan Castle & Gardens with time for exploring factored in. You’ll also make a lunch stop at Talisker Distillery (est. 1830) where you can choose to take a tour of the distillery if you wish.

Sleat Peninsula

Spend your first two nights on the tranquil Sleat Peninsula in Skye’s sleepy south. Relax in four star countryside hotels specially selected for their charm and award-winning restaurants. These peaceful retreats are the perfect place to cozy up by the fire with a wee dram (a scotch whisky)

Portree

Portree, it’s name derived from the Port of Righ, was once thought to mean port of the King but is really translated as port on the slope in Gaelic. Nestled in a cliff-lined inlet the town was founded only 200 years ago by Lord MacDonald as a base for local fishermen. Its colourful cottages line the harbour, making it a popular spot for visitors. During the summer months the town is alive with activity, but towards the spring and autumn things quieten down a bit, but there is plenty do and lots of eateries to choose from.

The Walking

The trip includes route notes for two walks and access to GPS tracks via our handy smartphone app.

First, walk from Kilmarie to Sligachan (17 km) on the island’s west coast with views of the towering Cuillin Ridge – renowned among mountaineers and climbers and the most Alpine experience in the UK. Enjoy the spectacle from the valley floor as you wind your way past beaches, and remote lochs to reach the Sligachan Hotel before your transfer to the island’s hub, and “capital”, Portree.

On your second hand-picked walk (7 km) we recommend pausing often among the rock spires and formations of the Quiraing, a popular film set, to soak up the atmosphere of this special place!

Skye has long been famous, from references in ancient Scottish lore to more recent appearances as an other-worldly backdrop in films and televisions series such as Highlander (1986), Stardust (2007), Macbeth (2015), and Game of Thrones (2011-2019). But on our 5 day getaway you’ll discover the real Skye, while adventuring the Macs way, and make your own memories!
