Walk of the Week: Treasures of Tuscany and Umbria, Italy

Welcome to this week’s, Walk of the Week. This week we are going to focus on one of the classic Italian Adventures, taking you on your own two feet through some of the Treasures of Tuscany and Umbria.

In a Nutshell

•    Distance: 83 kilometres •    Grading: Easy to Moderate This is a tour of some of the real highlights of Tuscany, from the classic Tuscan cities to the more hidden parts, with some of the greatest walks the regions have to offer.

Where is it?

You start off in the Medieval city of Siena, then take in Montepulciano, Cortona, Perugia and finishing off in the Renaissance city of Florence.   These cities are full to the brim of classical architecture, fantastic cuisine, art and culture and in between you get to explore the green rolling countryside of these regions.

Why walk it?

It is easy to get a flight out to Tuscany for a weekend and try to see a bit, but to get a true flavour of the region (sometimes literally) you need to spend some time there, to really dive into the areas and discover how the people there live, discover their passion for food, art and each other. You walk through some stunning scenery, through many areas of historical significance, up to hill-top towns and through vineyards and olive groves. With hand-picked accommodation in each of the bustling classic cities and rest days in Siena and Florence, you have time to fully explore the museums and galleries, or simply sit at a café and watch the world go by with a glass of wine.   Talking of wine, on day 7 we include a wine tasting at Castello Monte Vibiano to really get your head around what you should be looking for in great Tuscan wine.
