Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive DijonDijon is easily accessible being on the TGV train line from Paris (journey time approx. 1 hour 40 mins). Although most well known for its mustard of the same name, Dijon is an attractive city definitely worth a visit. Explore the historic medieval centre which was given UNESCO world heritage status in 2015.Ā
A luxury guesthouse in a league of its own. Located in the heart of the old town, it’s the perfect base for exploring Dijon. Marie-Helene and her husband are your hosts for the night, and offer a warm welcome as well as a satisfying freshly prepared breakfast. Complete with a heated indoor pool, this charming chambres d’hôtes is the perfect start to your trip.
A lovely 4* hotel located in the heart of the old town, it’s the perfect base for exploring Dijon. Relax in the onsite wine bar or in the gothic courtyard with a drink. The friendly staff here are happy to help with any questions you may have about the surrounding sights.
Start the day with a transfer out of the suburbs of Dijon (duration: 10 min), to the heart of the vineyards. Follow quiet vineyard trails to the village of Couchey and then onto Fixin, a hamlet with a picturesque church, fabulous restaurant and wine tasting ācaveā. Leaving Fixin, you have the option to take a detour through the woodland of āParc de Nosoitā. Continue through vineyards to reach Gevrey-Chambertin, a small town bursting with wine-tasting opportunities.

A small luxury hotel in Gevry-Chambertain with 5 comfortable rooms. On site wine tasting in the hotel’s cellar are run by a local sommelier (on request upon arrival). There is even an on-site café ’La Fromagerie’ serving organic and artisan cheeses from the Dijon market as well as artisan saucisson to pair with the various wines on offer.
La Rotisserie du Chambertin is located in Gevrey-Chambertin at the heart of the Burgundy vineyards. They have 9 rooms, named after vineyard plots. All of them are equiped with a LCD TV and a minibar. Free WiFi access is available. The private bathrooms include a walk-in shower or a bath, hairdryer and free toiletries.
A steep but short ascent takes you out of Gevrey and back on the trail. You soon come to Chambolle-Musigny, a hamlet with a few wine shops. Next you'll come across the 16th century Château du Clos de Vougeot. It no longer produces wine, but it is still an important monument to the history of winemaking in the region and will appeal to history, architecture and wine lovers alike.
Once you arrive in Vosne-RomanƩe, you can head across the street for a lovely private wine tour of the Bernard Rion vineyard, followed by a visit to the winery and its cellar, where you'll enjoy a prestigious tasting of eight wines.

Located on a vineyard on Burgundy's Wine Route, the hotel Le Richebourg offers spacious rooms, fantastic cuisine and the delights of a spa.
A transfer is included this morning to shorten an otherwise very long day. Continue through the vineyards of the CƓte de Beaune. You may even see the viticulteurs hard at work pruning the vines in preparation for harvest time in late September. Soon you will arrive at Aloxe-Corton, a beautiful village with its appellation d'origine contrƓlƩe (AOC), which produces both red and white wines.
Why not visit the Château de Corton-André with its exquisite varnished roof tiles, for a guided tasting? (payable locally)

The day begins with a private transfer to Meursault, where you may choose to visit a couple of local wineries. Afterwards, make your way back toward Beaune, passing through the renowned wine village of Pommard, famous for its rich red wines. Along the route, youāll have the chance to enjoy the scenic vineyards and perhaps stop for a tasting or two before returning to Beaune.

The walking is easy-going with ample opportunity to stop for wine tastings along the way. You will be walking on a mixture of paved/unpaved quiet country roads and woodland trails. Stay in a mix of 4* standard hotels, guesthouses and chateaux. A free day in Beaune allows plenty of time for discovery or relaxing.

This trip is rated Easy to Moderate, with daily hikes ranging from 9 km (5 miles) to 12 km (7.5miles). Most of the routes are flat and gentle, with just a few short climbs to keep things interesting - like the ascent out of Gevrey on Day 3 as you head to Nuits-Saint-Georges. Donāt worry, itās brief and totally manageable for regular walkers or beginners with a decent level of fitness.
Weāve built some flexibility into the itinerary to make sure you can enjoy the trip your way. Day 5 is a free day in Beaune, perfect for relaxing or exploring at your own pace. And on Day 6, the walk from Meursault to Beaune can easily be shortened (4.5km/2.7miles).
Youāll enjoy a mix of walking surfaces, from quiet tarmac country roads to dirt paths and woodland trails. The variety keeps things fresh and adds to the charm of the journey.
This trip is perfect for beginners, regular walkers seeking a laid-back adventure, and anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. You donāt need any prior experience with long-distance walking or technical skills - just a basic level of fitness to enjoy the journey comfortably.

Start each day with a delicious breakfast, and look forward to an included dinner at an award-winning gastronomic restaurant in Beaune (on day 4. Note: Dinner might be moved to day 5 or 6 depending on availability). This is usually at Loiseau des Vignes, a Michelin-recommended gem owned by the renowned French chef Bernard Loiseau. For the other evenings, youāll have plenty of dining options in each town. Youāll be spoiled for choice! Beaune boasts two award-winning restaurants, and Dijon has several as well.Ā
As for lunch, you can grab fresh, local items from supermarkets or the neighbourhood boulangerie.

This tour runs from AprilĀ to October, and any time during this period is perfect for walking. If youāre visiting in late September, youāll catch the grape harvest in actionāa fascinating time to be in the vineyards! Just keep in mind that itās a busy period, with more vehicles on the small country roads than usual.
Summer brings high temperatures, especially under the midday sun. Since many of the walking routes have little shade, youāll likely spend extended periods in the sun. To make the most of it, we recommend starting your days early, staying hydrated, and bringing the right gear. If youāre not a fan of the heat, consider visiting in the cooler months of Spring or Autumn for a more comfortable experience.
NOTE: Due to weekly opening schedules, there are some limitations to your inclusions:
- The wine tour in Vosne RomanĆ©e isnāt available on Sundays. If your tour starts on a Friday, weāll offer you a discount to make up for it.
There are several different options available when getting to Dijon. You can fly to any major Paris Airport ( Paris Charles de Gaulle,Ā OrlyĀ orĀ Beauvais) then take a train or bus from the airport to the city centre and from the centre (Gare de Lyon) take a direct TGV train to Dijon (approx. 1 hour 40 mins). You could also fly into LyonĀ and take a direct train from there (approx 2 hours).

On your departure day youĀ will be transferred from your hotel in Meursault to Beaune train station. From here you can take a train back to Dijon (approx. 30 mins). Train details can be found at SNCF. From Dijon you can take a TGV train to many locations in France and Europe, or continue home via one of the methods mentioned in the āGetting toā section.Ā
Your bags will be transferred from your accommodation as per your itinerary and moved onto your next overnight accommodation. We ask you to limit your luggage to one bag of up to 20kg (44lbs) per person.
Wine tour
Get ready for a Private guided wine tour at the Bernard Rion vineyard!
On the wine tour you will visit the winery and its cellar with a member of the Family. You will sample a selection ofĀ 8 winesĀ including 3 Premiers Cru wines and an old Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru wine.
NOTE: This tour is only available on select days, so plan accordingly to make the most of this unforgettable experience!
Children on the tour: If you are travelling with children aged 12ā17, they are permitted to accompany you on the premises.
We suggest you book as soon as your plans are finalised as the Burgundy area is extremely popular during the Summer.
This trip is graded āeasyāmoderateā with average daily distance being 10km (6miles). The walking is mostly flat, and two rest days are included. While there are a few hills, these are short and nothing too strenuous. The trails are a combination of tarmac country roads, dirt trails and woodland trails. This tour is suitable for walkers with good physical fitness.
Your bags will be transferred from your accommodation as per your itinerary and moved onto your next overnight accommodation. We ask you to limit your luggage to one bag of up to 20kg (44lbs) per person.

This tour is available from April to October. Any time within this period is ideal for walking. The grape harvest tends to take place the last week of September (variable) so please note that the vineyards will be busy during this time, with a lot of activity going on. This is an interesting time to be in the area, but be aware that there will be more vehicles on the small country roads than normal.
You can use public transport or a local taxi to continue to your next overnight stop.
