A Self-Guided Tour du Mont Blanc Adventure

Bob Shafer and Cathy Stano, seasoned Macs Adventure trekkers, embarked on the legendary Tour Du Mont Blanc. In this story, they reflect on their journey along the TMB and share what it was like to explore this iconic trail with us.

We were so happy to find Macs Adventure while searching for a self-guided hiking trip that offered basic comforts and navigational help. Macs provided all that and more!

We’re experienced hikers who have lived for years in the Rocky Mountains but had never explored the Alps or had the chance to experience the beauty of Mont Blanc until now. This trip didn't disappoint, and we’d highly recommend Macs for the TMB.

An average day started with a hearty breakfast before a 10–12-mile hike at our own pace, starting from places like Les Houches or Les Contamines. We only carried our day packs and trekking poles. Our luggage was flawlessly picked up and delivered to every destination, from the Chamonix Valley to the Italian Val Ferret, by the day's end. We stayed in a mix of comfortable hotels and a welcoming high mountain hut like the Refuge de la Croix du Bonhomme, and the dinners were always satisfying.

What we liked most was the freedom to go at our own pace - it’s your own private quest. Some days, you really had to dig deep to conquer high passes like the Col du Bonhomme and Grand Col Ferret, but the rewards were truly glorious. The stunning views of Mont Blanc from vantage points like Mont de la Saxe or after a refreshing dip in Lac Blanc were unforgettable.

The people you meet along the way, the quaint villages like La Fouly, the majestic views past Notre Dame de la Gorge, and the food - oh, did we mention the local food? You should try it all and take your time to enjoy the beauty around you. You might even use a cable car to get a different perspective!

Macs provided great support and was very accommodating from our first inquiry. They offered good communication 24/7, and we had maps and the Macs app, which you can download and always have on hand. It gave us peace of mind knowing we had help if we needed it while navigating between points like Les Chapieux after crossing the Col de la Seigne.

Thank you, Macs Adventure! Now we just need to decide where we’re going on our next adventure with you.
