  • Enjoying the local seafood specialities Craster kippers.
  • A warm Nothumbrian welcome from your hosts.
This itinerary fits in nicely to a week's holiday. The walking days are not too long and the average day involves around 5-6 hours of walking Starting your walking holiday in the fishing village of Cresswell, you follow the sweeping sands of Druridge, past the fishing port of Amble to the historic village of Warkworth where you can see Warkworth Castle - the first of many on the walk. Leaving Warkworth you pass through pretty fishing villages such as Alnmouth, Boulmer and Craster, perhaps taking time to stop and sample some of the famous Craster kippers. Take in further energising seascapes and fascinating ruins such as Dunstanburgh Castle before heading inland to the historic villages of Bamford and Belford. From Belford, a walk along dramatic cliff top paths will eventually bring you to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Your holiday features hand-picked overnight accommodation in high quality B&B’s, country inns, and guesthouses. Each is unique and offers the highest levels of welcome, atmosphere and outstanding local cuisine. We also include daily door to door baggage transfers, a comprehensive guidebook and pre-departure information pack as well as emergency support, should you need it.

Activity Level & Terrain

This holiday is graded overall as moderate and is suitable for most regular walkers. The exact grade does depend on the itinerary you choose. Most of the time you will be walking on footpaths and bridleways but there are some sections where beaches and minor roads are used, with quite a lot of beach walking alternatives also available. It is generally level and does involve too much ascent and descent.

Navigation

The Northumberland Coastal Path is very well way marked throughout and you should have no problems following the route by following the instructions in your guidebook carefully. There are some opportunities for walking on the beach rather than on the way-marked path and these are noted clearly in your guidebook.
