Safe Travels

It is of paramount importance to us that we maintain the health and well-being of our customers, suppliers, partners and our team. We understand that the pandemic means that certain aspects of travel will have changed, and that you may have some concerns.

Even in normal times we maintain a comprehensive Health and Safety Risk Management programme to ensure that we are operating safely and legally to ensure you can enjoy worry-free travels. Take a look at our Adventure Safe Booklets for Walkers and Cyclists:

Adventure Safe > Walking

Adventure Safe > Cycling

In addition, we have developed our own Safe Travel Guidelines for our team and our partners. Please be reassured that we are following all the health and safety protocols outlined by the World Tourism and Travel Council for hospitality and tour operators in the post-Covid 19 world to ensure you have a happy and safe trip.

Safe Travels For You

Our partners in the UK and across Europe have been working hard to make sure that they are able to offer you a warm welcome, whilst at the same time following the latest safety advice and guidance. Many of our UK partners have signed up to the Good to Go campaign launched by Visit Britain. This is an official mark that shows tourism businesses are following government and industry COVID-19 guidelines. As well as in the UK, our partners across Europe are all subscribing to similar local schemes that encourage adherence to the tenets of our policy:

  • Laws and Guidelines - Macs Adventure suppliers follow all local and national laws and guidelines for safe operations.
  • Risk Assessment - Each supplier must conduct their own risk assessment to identify areas of concern to protect customers and staff.
  • Social Distance Measures - Reducing contact in communal areas and ensuring social distancing is possible in all contexts.
  • Cleaning and Hygiene - Ensuring enhanced levels of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Track and Trace - Look out for customers and staff who display symptoms, advise them to self-isolate and seek medical assistance.

We have also written guidelines for our customers, so you can learn more about what to expect on a Macs Adventure trip with some tips on keeping yourself and others safe.

    Alta Via 1, Italy

"We loved our Alta Via 1 North hike! We started planning this trip in December 2019. We are grateful to Macs Adventure for being accommodating in these challenging times of planning with Covid. This trip took 20 months to actually happen, but Macs Adventure stuck it out with us and we always knew they were doing everything they could to take care of us."

"The real value add of Macs was sorting a couple of Covid issues. We had a late cancellation of accommodation due to staff infection, but Macs sorted it all out completely behind the scenes, and made what could have been a big problem, no problem at all for us (in fact probably an improvement)."

    Secret trails of Ibiza

"This was an incredible way to get away for some sunshine, while seeing some beautiful views. The walks were challenging but not too difficult, and varied enough to be always interesting. The accommodation was all great - the perfect place to relax after a long day's hiking. I was a little bit worried for my first time travelling alone (and the first time out of the country since Covid), but everything went smoothly and I couldn't have asked for a nicer holiday."

    San Juan Islands Biking:

"Wonderful Way to Travel in the Age of COVID 19

This was my first time to do a self-guided tour and my first trip with Macs. I was impressed with how seamless it all worked. The porters were there on time and in place, the lodging was excellent, and the rental equipment was top notch. We were able to socially distance ourselves along the way with no issues. I highly recommend adventuring with Macs!"

    "Absolutely Fantastic

Mac's organized or trip in under a week. Covid forced us to cancel our European Bike trip (we are from the US) and we were limited to ""road tripping"" . The accommodations were great. The app for route finding worked perfectly. All our luggage transfers were on time and easy to find (you interact twice per day with them due to the ferry transfers). We will use them for all our future bike trips!"

"Really good communication, and helped us alter itinerary to suit our needs, even in the face of new COVID restrictions. Good accommodation and information, and bag transfer service a real bonus for our first long distance walking experience. Loved dealing with Macs, very highly recommended!"

Tour du Mont Blanc Short Break

"So doing the TMB was one of my ""life goals"", but not something I was actively planning on doing in the near future. However, the covid crisis threw all my plans into disarray and while I wanted to go somewhere in the summer, I didn't want to go to far. I didn't really know anything about MacsAdventures other than they had good reviews on the internet. There was some drama right before I started with putting France on the quarantine list, but the staff were really communicative, easy to get a hold of (every time I called I got through immediately), and they were really professional and kind and sorted all the issues quickly. I would 120% recommend Macs to others, and this trip. This hike was so incredible, I had such an amazing time, from the scenery, to the incredible hiking, to the accommodation, to the food, to the weather, to the people, to the just sheer enjoyment of hiking every day for over 200km. Doing the ""comfort"" hike was a great choice, as I could spend all day hiking, then come to a lovely accommodation (with AMAZING dinners and breakfasts), with a comfy bed and my own bathroom. Check-in and staff at every location was perfect. I would consider myself in decent shape, who liked hiking but didn't do it too regularly (mostly on holiday, as I live somewhere really flat), and had never done a multi-day hike longer than 4 days. My legs were pretty thrashed by the end, but overall it wasn't as difficult as I feared! The information and most importantly the app with offline maps made it really easy and stress free to navigate. (Note: I did this trek solo). To conclude, I am so glad I did this trip with Macs, and am already thinking of booking the Walkers Haute Route with them next summer! I would recommend to anyone."

We found the booking team that helped organise the trip helpful and responsive to the changing COVID environment. Many thanks for this. The accommodations seemed to have adjusted very well to COVID rules with appropriate social distancing and other controlled interactions.

    Porto & the Douro Valley

"We very much enjoy traveling but during a pandemic choices have been slim. When Portugal opened up to travelers and we ensured that it was as safe as possible to travel there, we booked a hiking trip to this area. The Portuguese people are some of the friendliest in the world. This trip is a relaxed hiking trip, as it has only four days of hiking combined with one day on a train and one day sailing down the Douro. Old part of Porto, in which our hotel was located, is fabulous to enjoy. The train station, Livraria Lello bookstore, tile clad churches and the waterfront are must-sees. Train ride up along the Douro was scenic and relaxing. Four days of hiking were very nice, scenic and interesting passing through vineyards, olive groves and small villages in which we stopped for an expresso. Accommodations at wineries were superb. Then the trip was capped off by a boat trip down the Douro, back to Porto. The great lunch that was served on the boat was well above our expectations. Even in the Covid era the trip went off without a hitch. Good accommodations, luggage transfers, and taxi pickups were perfect."

"My compliments to the team - The whole trip (thus far) has been great and very well planned. We were very impressed to bump into Cara (testing the course) on the first and second days. That told us a lot about the lengths you go to in ensuring customers get the correct information."

    Walking the Thames Path:

I enjoyed the trip very much and was glad to get away after being in lockdown for so long! In all the places I went too, people were observing Covid rules, and it didn’t feel onerous at all. I can’t fault the accommodation at all. I was very comfortable in all of the places I stayed.
