Spoil yourself with food, wine and charming hotels in Dordogne, France
I am pleased to announce the launch of our new walking holiday in Dordogne, France. Recently our blog has been focusing on some of our more adventurous trips so I thought that it was about time we took things a bit easier and indulged ourselves with a few of the finer things in life. Walking in Dordogne is all about fabulous food, great wines, the gorgeous scenery of rural France and charming family run hotels. If I'm honest this is really how I prefer my walking, but please don't tell anyone! This walking holiday in the Dordogne and Lot regions of southwest France wanders between six of the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (the most beautiful villages of France). You will walk through delightful pastoral countryside, follow lazy meandering rivers, stroll through walnut orchards and enjoy sweeping cliff top vistas. The best bit is that each night you have a charming family run hotel to look forward to, most with swimming pools. Other highlights of our walking holiday in the Dordogne include hilltop chateaux's, wine tasting at Coteaux de Glanes, exploring the steep streets of Rocamadour and enjoyed a relaxed lunch in the narrow streets of a quiet village. Gourmets will also want to indulge in the locally produced foie gras, for which the area is famous. I can guarantee that you will be surprised and delighted at every twist and turn by the variety and contrast of the walking in Dordogne. Our Hilltop Villages of Dordogne walking holiday begins in Sarrazac, a beautiful and well preserved hamlet secluded in a wooded valley. Your walk starts by heading past two of Correz’s ‘Beautiful Villages’ and along lush country lanes to Collonges La Rouge, a village built entirely of red sandstone. Your walk through the Dordogne continues to to Beulieu Sur Dordogne as you follow an ancient cobbled mule track and then mixed woodland towards the Cere River Valley to Port de Gagnac. The next section of the walk crosses through vineyards of the co-operative growers, so a wine tasting is obligatory! The underground limestone caverns of Gouffre de Padirac are the next highlight of your walk through France before you reach your final destination of Carennac. History buffs will find it hard to pass up the opportunity to visit the beautiful medieval town of Rocamadour, home to the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which has attracted pilgrims for centuries. Our Hilltop Villages of the Dordogne walking holiday includes 7 nights accommodation in delightful rural 2 and 3* hotels, breakfast each morning, 6 dinners which will leave you in need of plenty of exercise the next day, daily baggage transfer, a comprehensive information pack, route notes and maps as well as emergency support from our local representative. So you can just relax and enjoy your walking holiday in Dordogne.
