The Macs Approach

We closely monitor and follow US Government travel advice via the US Department of State. Our decision-making for customer travel will directly reflect their Travel Advisory Levels, and any change in US Government advice will also change our approach to advice for destinations.

We also closely monitor the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) for information on coronavirus itself, the global situation and tips for prevention.

Please see our Resources section below for links to additional relevant information and useful websites.

Please contact our Customer Experience team if you have any questions or need any further advice.

Lastly, we are in regular contact with our partners on the ground who can provide local insight and relevant details pertaining to Macs trips.

How does this affect my trip?

The US Department of State has 4 levels of travel advisory warning. They are:

  1. Exercise normal precaution
  2. Exercise increased precaution
  3. Reconsider Travel
  4. Do not travel (to a specific region or country)

(Updated 12/3) – What does it mean for my trip that the US Department of State has put in place a Global Health Advisory Level 3 – Reconsider Travel

My trip is less than 6 weeks away

We will continue follow the advice from the US Department of State regarding all international travel. We are dedicated to working with you to make sure you don’t have to choose between traveling against advisory warnings and your travel investment. In response to the recent updates and the ever-changing global coronavirus situation, we have decided to relax our terms and conditions to allow you much greater flexibility to amend your travel plans over the coming weeks to a time where you can enjoy your vacation without the uncertainty and stress surrounding the current travel climate.

For all customers due to travel in the next 6 weeks, we are now able to offer the following options:

  • Postpone your booking to a later date in 2020, or to 2021 – no cancellation charges will be applied.
  • Transfer your booking to another destination – no cancellation charges will be applied.
  • Accept a trip credit – we will hold your payment against a future booking – destination and dates of your choice.

Please reach out to your Macs Adventure Specialist or our Customer Experience team to discuss which option might be best for you. No cancelation fees will be applied (excluding Bike & Boat itineraries and other selected tours).

My trip is more than 6 weeks away

If your trip is more than 6 weeks away, please continue to check the US State Department website for advice and call our office if you have any questions. Though we are aware of the current impact of coronavirus on your destination, there is still time to see if the outbreak around the world subside. We do believe that the freedom to travel without worry will return.

However, we do understand that the coronavirus is having an impact on your travel plans & scheduling beyond just the countries that are currently affected. As such, we do want to work with you to allow you to take the adventure you want, when you want it. If you do wish to change, postpone or cancel your trip more than 6 weeks prior to your scheduled departure date, then the following options available:

  1. If you would like to change your destination: contact our Customer Experience team to find out what changes are possible for your trip.  No cancelation fees will be applied (excluding Bike & Boat itineraries and other selected tours).  We will instead apply a $150 per person service charge in this scenario to make the amendment.
  2. While we normally treat a change of date as a cancelation of services, we understand that you may wish to change your dates or postpone until next year.  Please contact our Customer Experience team to discuss the possibility of delaying your trip until 2021.  No cancelation fees will be applied (excluding Bike & Boat itineraries and other selected tours).  We will instead apply a $150 per person service charge in this scenario to make the amendment.
  3. You can choose to cancel your holiday; our standard booking conditions will still apply. Please contact our Customer Experience team to discuss the costs and timing for a trip cancelation. We would suggest you contact your insurance company to inquire about recovering any cancelation costs.

We know that you will be concerned, but we ask for your patience as we work to assist our customers travelling imminently.

What if the US Department of State reverts to the advisory of No Travel Restrictions in place for my destination? (Advisory Levels 1-2)?

We will continue to operate trips to that country in line with government advice. If you have an upcoming trip to one of these countries or regions and want to know what alternative arrangements can be made for you, then you have the following options:

  1. If you would like to change your destination: contact our Customer Experience team to find out what changes are possible for your trip.  No cancelation fees will be applied (excluding Bike & Boat itineraries and other selected tours).  We will instead apply a $150 per person service charge in this scenario to make the amendment.
