Offa's Dyke Path South

  • Walk the southern section Offa's Dyke Path, a classic National Trail
  • Unspoiled landscapes of the Black Mountains in the Brecon Beacons National Park
  • An ancient earthwork built by King Offa which marks the Welsh-English border
  • Hillforts, norman castles, ruined monasteries that weave a rich historical tapestry
  • Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, such as the Wye Valley
The Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail criss-crosses back and forth along the Anglo-Welsh border, stretching from North to South Wales, passing through no less than three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The southern section of this classic British walk takes you up and along Hatterill Ridge in the Black Mountains, through the rolling hills of the stunning Wye Walley and Welch Marches, so named in the Middle Ages where on the Welsh side of the border the Marcher lords ruled as they saw fit and did not have to abide by the King's rules. Relax in Hay on Wye after your day's walking and browse in the bookshops that this town is famous for, explore the monastic ruins of Llanthony Priory, nestled in the Black Mountains and Tintern Abbey next to the River Wye. Enjoy being in this historical region of border castles, including Monmouth and Chepstow.
