Activity Level & Terrain

The route has been graded as moderate overall based on the distances each day. The routes are in mountainous terrain but should be manageable for most regular hikers or those with a good level of fitness.

The programme offers a variety of hikes and sightseeing options, and the paths tend to be well graded and maintained throughout the national parks.

Navigation is straightforward with detailed route notes upon arrival, and the GPX tracks provided in our app. You will be hiking in national parks with good signposting, so it will be relatively easy to find your way.

Your holiday includes a range of hand-picked hotels, that are perfectly located to explore the wonders of Patagonia. At all the hotels on this tour, you'll find comfortable, stylish rooms with a private bathroom. Many of the hotels also offer spa facilities, perfect to unwind after a day's hiking, are centrally-located for dining out, or offer spectacular views of the natural landscapes around them.

Single Rooms & Solo Walkers

If you require single rooms we would be happy to accommodate you although there is a single room supplement payable. Unfortunately, this tour is not available to solo walkers.

When To Go

Our trip is available from mid-October through to the end of April. November to March offers a greater chance of warmth and longer days. Late November and early December tend to be the quieter months, and are wonderful time to enjoy the spring flowers.

Getting to the Start

By Air: Buenos Aires is easily accessible from many major airports. From Buenos Aires, you can then fly directly to El Calafate Airport. On arrival , you will be greeted by an English-speaking guide and transferred to El Chalten, beginning your adventure through dramatic Patagonian scenery.

Getting from the End

By Air: From Punta Arenas, the most convenient option is to fly directly to Santiago. Santiago is then well connected with most major airports. You may also wish to consider an indirect flight back to Buenos Aires, if this is more convenient for a return ticket.

Luggage Transfer

Your bags will be transferred from your accommodation as per your itinerary and moved onto your next overnight accommodation, giving you the freedom to walk each day with just a day pack. We ask you to limit your luggage to one bag of up to 20kg per person. Please ensure that you do not bring more than one bag of 20kg as if this occurs, you may be asked to pay an additional fee for an extra bag.

At Macs Adventure, we work in partnership with many luggage transfer providers who set a limit on how many bags/suitcases they will transfer per person, and also the weight of the bag/suitcase.  Your booking includes transfer of 1 bag per person.  It is very important that you read the luggage information specific to your tour before departure. If you do not adhere to these limits, there is a great possibility that you will be charged locally both for extra bags or if they are too heavy. This limitation can be a challenge, especially as airlines generally have limits that are higher. However, our luggage providers have reasons for these limits (usually due to the Health and Safety of their employees), which we must respect.
