Itinerary
Day 1 Start / Finish point: St HelierThe walk starts in St Helier, a busy bustling town and the capital of Jersey. Take time to explore St Helier before you start your coastal walk. Wander around the Central Market taking in the colourful array of fruit, vegetables and flowers, browse round the independent boutique shops or visit the Jersey museum to learn about the history of the island.
Jersey is easily accessible from the UK and Europe with regular flights from many airports and ferries from Weymouth, Poole and Portsmouth.
Facing the sea on the Havre des Pas seafront, the Ommaroo Hotel provides individually decorated rooms and beautiful views of the sea and rocky reef. All of the Ommaroo’s rooms include TVs and private bathrooms. Guests can make use of tea/coffee facilities and hairdryers, while some rooms feature scenic sea views. The relaxing sun room provides panoramic views of the sea and the sprawling, rocky reef of Havre des Pas. A full English breakfast is served in the stylish and modern dining room. In the evening, guests can choose from a 3 course table d'hôte dinner menu.
The Royal Yacht offers stylish rooms with free Wi-Fi, 2 restaurants and a brasserie cafe. On-site Spa Sirene includes a pool, steam room and beauty treatments. Rooms have a modern design, each featuring an LCD TV with pay movies, a safe and tea/coffee facilities. Some rooms have a balcony or terrace, whilst all rooms have a luxury private bathroom. The adult-only Spa Sirene provides therapies and treatments using Phytomer products. With a relaxing sauna, aromatherapy room and spa bath, there is also a state-of-the-art gym. A range of shops, restaurants and galleries are in the immediate area and their Sirocco Restaurant serves a contemporary menu, while Café Zephyr offers outside dining. The friendly Royal Yacht also has a grill restaurant and 4 stylish bars, some with live music.
Set in five acres of beautifully landscaped gardens on the outskirts of Saint Helier, far enough away from the hustle and bustle of town to be nice and peaceful. All the rooms are comfortable and pleasantly furnished with en-suite bathrooms. There are 2 outdoor pools and a hot tub plus a quiet reading lounge to relax in.
Leaving lively St Helier behind you the first part of the coastal path is an easy walk along the seafront taking in St Aubins Bay. At low tide, you can walk out to Elizabeth Castle which has defended Jersey for over 400 years. St Aubins is a lovely little seaside village with colourful houses and pretty harbourside cafes. It makes a great place to stop and refresh.Â
As you walk round the headland in the southwest corner of Jersey, pause for a minute to take in ‘La Corbiere’, an iconic lighthouse which has saved many a ship from becoming wrecked on the rocky shore. As there is no accommodation in La Pulente itself, you take a bus back to nearby St Brelades where you will stay overnight before returning to La Pulente the following morning to continue your walk.Â
This hotel is located right on the beach in the centre of St Brelade's Bay, the 4-star Golden Sands hotel offers excellent views of one of Jersey's finest beaches. All rooms have satellite TV and tea/coffee facilities. Some rooms have balconies, and many have stunning sea views. Sands Café Bar offers snacks and light meals and their Golden Sands Restaurant serves a fine menu including local seafood.
First founded in the 19th century, St Brelade's Bay Hotel has a truly special location, set in 5 acres of stunning gardens and overlooking one of the most beautiful beaches in the Channel Islands. The entire hotel was lovingly and lavishly refurbished in early 2011 to the highest standard. Complimentary high speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
Situated on Jersey's south coast, the St. Magloire was built in the 1640's and is a short stroll away from golden sands and clear blue waters. All rooms are en-suite with comfortable beds, Sky satellite channels and wi-fi throughout. A full English cooked breakfast is provided in the morning. In the evenings you can enjoy a leisurely stroll around the harbour before sampling local cuisine in the many restaurants and bars that the village has to offer.
Today's walk starts on a high with the long sandy beach of St Ouens Bay. This is the perfect opportunity to take off your socks and boots and have a paddle or watch the surfers out to sea. Visit the National Trust site of Le Noir Pre or ‘The Orchid Field’ which are a riot of colour in May and June. Once you reach the northwest corner of the island the scenery changes dramatically from gentle sandy beaches and wide-open views to rocky coves and dramatic cliffs.
The Prince of Wales is situated on the north coast of the island and overlooks on of Jersey's most idyllic sandy bays of Grève de Lecq. Coarse golden sand, excellent facilities, including several cafes and pubs. The rooms with countryside views overlook trees on the uphill slope behind the hotel, or rural views to the west and east of the hotel, the seaview rooms open onto a balcony above the guest patio. All rooms are en-suite and have complimentary tea and coffee facilities, fridge, TV, free WIFI and room service.
Here you meet the rough and rugged coastline of the North coast, you will certainly notice the stark contrast with the south of the island. Steep heather and bracken clad cliffs dominate and around every corner you really are greeted by a different view.Â
There are many viewpoints along the way including The Devils Hole. This dramatic natural feature is a collapsed cave and makes a great spot to watch the sea swells and wildlife. A real highlight of the north coast. Admire the glorious views over to Sark from the most northerly tip of the island Sorel Point.

The stunning scenery continues as you leave Bouley Bay and walk around the northeast of the island. The east-facing coast is sheltered from the westerly winds and is where the rolling farmland and fields meet the sea. The headland at Fliquet Bay is Jersey’s closest point to France and on a clear day, the fishing ports of Carteret and Portbail can be seen. A picnic on St Catherine’s Bay makes a nice lunch stop before continuing onward to Gorey Bay with it’s imposing castle - Mont Orgueil, possibly Jersey’s finest.

You can leave a bit later this morning after a long and leisurely breakfast as the walk from Gorey Bay to St Helier is a shorter one. South of Gorey Harbour you reach the Royal Bay of Grouville with its massive tidal reaches. When the tide is out the low lying reef and rocks make the landscape lunar-like. It is well worth planning in time to explore with an experienced guide to learn about the rich maritime life beneath the sea.  Â
Along this stretch of coast, you will see numerous Jersey Round Towers built to defend this vulnerable stretch of the coast.Â
Rounding the southeast corner of the island It is an easy walk back to St Helier where the walk ends.

This route is graded as moderate, it is mainly walking on existing pathways, bridleways and some minor roads. Beach walking is an option depending on the tides.
One of the highlights of this tour is the high standard of accommodation. We specifically choose the Inns, Guesthouses and B&B’s to ensure that you enjoy every minute of your stay.
They all offer a warm welcome to walkers, traditional hospitality and delicious local food. We always try and book your accommodation as close as possible to the line of the trail. Â
Due to limited accommodation availability for one night stays we may have to accommodate you in one location for more than one night. If this is the case, Jersey has an excellent local bus network which can be used to travel to the start of the walk.
Single Rooms
If you require single rooms we would be happy to accommodate you although there is a single room supplement payable.
Meals
A hearty breakfast is included each morning. Lunch and dinner are not included so you are free to choose from the available options. Most accommodations are more than happy to provide a packed lunch - this can be booked on arrival. Dinner is available either at your accommodation or nearby pubs or restaurants.
Additional Nights and Extensions
Many of our clients choose to add extra nights along the walk to sample more of the wonderful walking and attractions available on Jersey. Extra nights can be added anywhere along the walk although we would recommend an extra night in St Helier as there is an abundance of inland walks which can be accessed by local bus from here.
We supply route notes, detailed maps and also a guidebook, all of which will help you find your way. GPX tracks are also accessible on the Macs Smartphone App, so you can simply follow the route on your phone.

This walking holiday can be enjoyed from the beginning of April to early October. Summer can be hot on the Channel Islands and very busy, especially over the school holidays. We would advise walking in the spring to see the wildflowers that border the fields you walk through.
You can get to Jersey by fast ferry or by flying. Jersey Airport is served by a few different airlines, such as Flybe and Easyjet and they fly from varying locations in the UK. The airport is 5 miles away from St Helier, but easily accessible by bus. Bus travel information and schedules are located on the Liberty Bus website. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. You can also take a taxi.
St Helier is also accessible by ferry from either Poole, Portsmouth or Weymouth and from the French mainland in St Malo. Condor Ferries is the operator of these ferries and you will find schedules and costs on their website. Upon arrival into the port of St Helier it is only a 5-10 minute walk to the town centre.

Your bags will be transferred from your accommodation as per your itinerary and moved onto your next overnight accommodation. We ask you to limit your luggage to one bag of up to 20kg per person.
The distances and ascent/descents are approximations of the recommended routes.
Please be prepared by packing all necessary items, for example, proper rain gear (jackets and pants), sun hat and sunscreen. Your information pack has a detailed equipment list which includes standard walking/cycling gear such as good walking shoes or boots, warm and waterproof clothes for the cooler months and lightweight clothing for summer, and a day pack.
It is a requirement of booking this tour with Macs Adventure that you have suitable travel insurance which covers you for the activity and emergency evacuation and hospital care.
The Jersey Coastal Path is an easy and accessible walk. That said there will be a number of ascents and descents - most noticeably in the north of the island. It helps to have done some multi day walking before and regular cardio vascular exercise prior to your holiday will increase your fitness levels and therefore your enjoyment of the walk.
We suggest you book as soon as your plans are finalised as this route is very popular. Given its easy accessibilty from the UK and the sunny climate the trail can get busy - especially in the summer months. To ensure you have quality accommodation, on or near to the trail its best to book as soon as you know your available dates. Â Â
You will need good walking shoes/boots (ideally waterproof), comfortable walking clothes, waterproof jacket and trousers, a daypack and hats/gloves etc.
This walking holiday can be enjoyed from March to October. Summer can be hot on the Channel Islands and very busy especially over the school holidays. We would advise walking in the spring to see the wild flowers that border the fields you walk through.
Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate walkers with dogs as many of the accommodation providers we use do not accept pets.
You can use public transport or local taxis to continue to your next overnight stop. In some cases the baggage transfer service that takes your bags on to your next accommodation may be able to assist. Our office can assist with helpful advice should you need to arrange transport for yourself or anyone in your party.
