Camino Portugués: Stage 3: Coimbra to Porto

  • Experience a sense of timelessness and freedom amongst the ever changing landscape
  • Meeting your fellow pilgrims and sharing their stories
  • Enjoying a Pastel de Nata and coffee in Coimbra
  • Sipping ruby port in the UNESCO heritage city of Porto
  • Discovering the real Portugal as you head along its paths at your own pace
This section takes you from Coimbra up to the northern capital of Porto. During the course of the week, you will walk through vineyards, valleys and woodlands as you head out towards the Atlantic coast before swinging round into the beautiful UNESCO city of Porto, where you might be tempted to try some of the famous local produce. This stage is composed of rural walking, mainly on minor roads, through many small villages and hamlets. Cafes are scarce along this route, but there are many picnic stops. Mealhada is a small city with all services available. Also in Mealhada you can enjoy the famous platter which is roast suckling pig. The terrain is mostly flat, and there are a few nice scenic spots to view along the way. You will be walking along a Roman Road for a section. You will also pass the beautiful Monastery of Grijo.
