Dartmoor & the Jurassic Coast

7 Days & 6 Nights
  • Discover the unspoilt beauty of Dartmoor & Devon’s Jurassic coastline.
  • Follow the same rural routes that inspired the poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
  • Walk through North Bovey, one of the most idyllic villages in Devon.
  • Wide open skies, wooded valleys, towering tors and stark beauty of Dartmoor.
  • Salcombe Hill with views over the famous cliffs of the Jurassic Coast.
A 2-centre self-guided walking tour exploring Dartmoor and Devon’s Jurassic Coast. With 3 nights spent in Dartmoor and 3 nights in Sidmouth, you can really get to grips with why they are both a paradise for walkers. Dartmoor, with its towering tors and wild moorland has inspired the creative mind and is the backdrop for the “Hound of the Baskervilles”, featuring Sherlock Holmes. Sidmouth, a “town caught still in a timeless charm” (John Betjeman) is nestled beneath the Triassic red cliffs of the Jurassic Coast and is a great base from which to explore East Devon with both inland and coastal walking. To this add stays in cosy hotels and B&B’s, lunches in real-ale pubs, gourmet dinners and breaks for fabulous cream teas en route.

What To Expect

Don’t want to move accommodations every night, but stay 3 nights in each location and really get to know it in depth? Do you like a tour with contrasting landscapes; unspoilt Dartmoor with wide open moorland and East Devon’s stunning Jurassic Coastline? If so, then you should book this holiday. Immerse yourself in these idyllic places by day and stay in charming small hotels and B&B’s by night. Devon is also a hotspot for outstanding food and one of the key reasons why people holiday here.

Grade & Terrain

This tour is graded as moderate. The walks are a combination of trails, walking through open moorland, wooded and coastal tracks and country roads. Most of the time you will be walking on “official” paths, such as the South West Coast Path, the Dartmoor Way, the Two Moors Way and the Coleridge Link, etc. You will need to be very physically fit to fully enjoy this tour as, at times, there are some elevation gains and losses to negotiate.

Navigation

When walking on “official trails” it is quite well way marked and relatively easy to follow. However, at times the signs will be intermittent and for all the walks we provide comprehensive route notes and OS maps, so you should be able to find your way. You will have to be able to read a map and navigate. We also provide GPS tracks for those who wish to take a GPS unit.

Accommodation Information

You will stay in a mixture of carefully chosen B&B’s, small hotels and guest houses.

Single Rooms & Solo Walkers

If you require single rooms we would be happy to accommodate you although there is a single room supplement payable.

We welcome solo walkers on this trip although you should of course take extra care in the outdoors when walking solo.

Meals

Most of your accommodations will be more than happy to provide a packed lunch on request and this can be booked on arrival. Dinner is available either at your accommodation or in nearby pubs or restaurants.
